While it's never too late to read this week's Indy interview with Houston Person, it soon will be too late to catch him performing here in town. The tenor sax giant — who's played with everyone from Horace Silver to Lena Horne — will be at Colorado College's Packard Hall (5 W. Cache la Poudre St.) tonight at 7:30 p.m. (More info here.)

Person, who's recorded more than 75 albums as a bandleader, began his recording career back in the mid-’60s on the Prestige label, whose roster included legends likes John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis. He also spent some 35 years recording and touring with fellow South Carolinan Etta Jones, considered by many to be one of jazz's greatest vocalists.

If you're still on the fence about going to the show, this richly resonant performance of "It's Magic," from Person's 2004 tribute album To Etta With Love, should take care of that.
