Angry Birds celebrate Freddie Mercury's birthday

Nothing says Labor Day more than an Angry Bird transforming itself into Freddie Mercury.

Well, technically, lots of things do. But in honor of the late Queen frontman's upcoming birthday, FInnish company Rovio Entertainment, creators of the Angry Birds franchise, released an animated video today featuring their yellow bird dressed up as Mercury, complete with mustache and crown, and riding a bicycle to the accompaniment of — what else? — Queen's "Bicycle Race."

The video was released to commemorate Freddie for a Day, a fundraising initiative in which folks dress up like Freddy Mercury in support of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a decade-old organization that raises funds to fight HIV/AIDS, which claimed the singer's life back in 1991.

As for what to wear yourself for Mercury's birthday, which isn't until this coming Wednesday, the Freddie for a Day website offers a variety of suggestions — Bat Wing Freddie, Leather Freddie, Stripy Freddie, Sequined Leotard Freddie, Cat Suit Freddie, etc. — along with a history of each costume and tips for where to find accessories online.
