Weekend festival preview: Toro, taiko and time travel

While the Indy has written about the coming weekend's Time Traveller's Circus in a couple of Reverb columns and a feature story in this week's issue, there's at least one act appearing at the three-day Happy Ass Ranch extravaganza that totally demands the multimedia magic of IndyBlog.

And that would be Saturday night's headlining attraction, the Denver-based-32-piece-masked-electronic-taiko-guerilla-marching-band-armada known as Itchy-O.

"They have an eight-person L.E.D. Chinese dragon which goes through the audience," enthuses Tanya Shaw, one of the event organizers. "It's very interactive and borderline frightening. They like to 'hijack' parades and festivals and make them their own."

Tons of area musicians ranging from El Toro de la Muerte to the Hopeful Heroines will also be playing the festival, along with plenty of burlesque artists, fire-eaters, magicians and fortune tellers, so go here for more info.

Meanwhile, here's a preview of what to expect from Itchy-O.
