From the listings desk: Despite the fact that no one has been able to figure out whether it's the Age of Aquarius or not, the sentiment remains the same as far as Manitou Springs is concerned. (That sentiment borrowing from Aquarian traits of rebellion, humanity, modernization, idealism and philanthropy. So there.)
Actually, it's because the Age of Aquarius is the chosen theme for this year's Carnivale Parade, set for Feb. 18. Things get started at 1 p.m., following the traditional Mumbo Jumbo Gumbo Cook-Off (judged, in part, last year by the Indy's Bryce Crawford).
According to organizers, this will be Carnivale's 20th anniversary, and like all the others before it, everyone is invited to join in the parade. You can't drive anything motorized, but you can just show up at 12:30 p.m. the day of the event in Manitou's Memorial Park.
Volunteers are also needed. Duties include helping wrangle the crowd and marching in "the giant marching puppets and carrying the nine Carnivale letters at the front of the Parade (some of these are already taken, by tradition.)"
Those interested should call 685-9127 or 695-5089.
