Bach visits Peterson AFB

Six months after taking office in June, Springs Mayor Steve Bach finally made his way out to Peterson Air Force Base Tuesday — his first visit there as mayor.

Considering the military provides a key component of the local economy, and Bach has been all about "economic vitality," it took a while for him to say, "Howdy" at the home of the nation's homeland security command (Northern Command) and the bi-national air and space protectors (North American Aerospace Defense Command).

But he finally made it there, and met with 21st Space Wing commander Col. Chris Crawford in the headquarters building, on the left in the photo. Bach, center, was accompanied by Steve Cox, who is transitioning from the mayor's chief of staff to head of economic vitality and innovation.

"During his visit," the Space Wing said in a release, "Bach learned more about the 21st SW’s global missile warning and space control missions, future growth plans and the wing’s mutual aid agreement as first responders to fires and emergencies at the city airport. "
