Back in 2009, we wrote about Rafa Jenn, a Denver artist participating in that year's Nocturnal Mockery.
With all its founders moved away, Noc Moc is sadly extinct, but Jenn is still working. Here's his most recent effort, "Meanwhile..."
In a mass e-mail, Jenn explained the image like this:
This latest work is based upon the most emblematic of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. On it's own, the image evokes notions of a death-obsessed culture, of symbolism made manifest, and an enduring confoundment of technical accomplishment.
"Meanwhile..." belongs categorically, with "123 Vertical Lines", a minimalist, on/off pattern that relies on the viewer's mind to achieve "completion". An added "visual rhyme" is the concordance of the 45 degree pattern with that of the Pyramids' slope.
The title refers to the enduring ever-presence of these veritable giants that have loomed over the comings-and-goings of mankind for over 4500 years.
Those interested in buying (the holidays are just around the corner, after all) or seeing Jenn's other works, see here.
