There's even more bad news in DMV land.
Not only is the downtown location closed, other locations are only partially operational. If you have to go to the DMV soon, you have my sympathy ... uh, even more of my sympathy than usual.
Read the following release carefully to avoid further hassles.
NEWS RELEASE (MV11-04)
For Immediate Release
LIMITED SERVICES AVAILABLE AT TWO MOTOR VEHICLE BRANCH OFFICES
December 2, 2011 — Colorado Springs, CO — Due to connectivity issues with the Colorado Department of Revenue, the Clerk & Recorder’s Motor Vehicle Southeast and Downtown Branch Offices currently can process only basic renewal transactions. These locations also are unable to process credit cards at this time and will accept only cash or checks. There is no estimated time when this issue will be corrected.
The Main Office at Citizens Service Center, 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Road, and the North office at Union and Research Parkway are currently fully functional. Customers are encouraged to visit those locations for transactions other than basic renewals.
“We are working with the Department of Revenue to have this situation rectified as quickly as possible. We strive to provide a high level of customer service to the citizens of El Paso County and we hope to have this situation resolved soon,” said Clerk & Recorder Wayne Williams. “We apologize for any inconvenience that this issue causes our customers and we are working to correct the problem. Our branch offices are open today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the North Branch office will be open tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.”

——- ORIGINAL POST, THURSDAY, 10:48 A.M. ——-
A few weeks ago, I slogged to the downtown Clerk and Recorder's office in a slushy rain.
Upon arriving, I noticed the front entrance was blocked with yellow tape. There was no sign explaining why — though, luckily, I was aware that the building was undergoing renovations.
Irritated, and getting wet, I circled the building. Only one door was open, and I was thoroughly drenched by the time I found it. Inside, the entire operations had been moved to a single tiny room.
What a mess. Even for the DMV.
Thankfully, a helpful employee at the door answered my brief questions about my vehicle title. But I couldn't help but feel sorry for all the people waiting in line for something more complicated.
Thus, I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news: You can't go to the downtown DMV for four days, beginning Monday, Dec. 5. On the bright side, you won't get wet, confused and angry before you even enter the DMV. On the down side, you'll have to drive a ways to another office if you need to visit the Clerk and Recorder's Office.
