Colorado Springs' Foodie Dates: It's business time

If you ever wonder whether or not our city has a solid food scene, just look at the success of Colorado Springs Food Tours. Started by Karen Kelly and her daughter Samantha Bruner in summer 2010 as a downtown-focused venture, the company has since expanded to Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs. It's also looking to hire additional tour guides.

That success has spawned an additional outlook for the single and starving: Foodie Dates, a monthly dinner or happy-hour get together for singles looking to mingle.

“There are a lot of food-loving people here in Colorado Springs who are looking for places to meet people but don’t find the bar and nightclub scenes appealing," says Bruner (disclosure: with whom I attended high school) in a news release. "We want to provide them with age-appropriate, sophisticated, and structured events during which they can meet numerous other singles in one night."

The structure will be familiar to speed-dating types: two diners will be paired for a five-minute date, until time's up and the partners switch. (The release says that each new date comes with a new course, so I hope you eat fast.)

So far, dinners and happy hours will take place at chef Brent Beavers' Conscious Table. Its $49 dinner menu will feature six small plates and two glasses of wine, while the $35 happy hour is down to three and one (cocktail).

Dates are age-range-specific and kick off on Dec. 4 for dinner, and Dec. 7 for happy hour.
