A statement from the National Cannabis Industry Association says that some medical cannabis workers in Colorado have joined the state chapter of the United Commercial and Food Workers Union. The new division is called "medical cannabis and hemp workers."
“We are pleased at UFCW Local 7’s decision to represent Colorado’s medical cannabis retail workers. Medical marijuana is gaining national recognition as an emerging industry in the United States; drawing on our combined strength as a trade association and a labor union, NCIA and UFCW are working together to bring about much-needed national policy change favoring the legitimate industry and its workers.” said Aaron Smith, Executive Director of the National Cannabis Industry Association.
Local 7 President, Kim Cordova said, “We are the retail food, pharmacy, agriculture, food processing, and healthcare Union in Colorado and around the nation. Our Union has over 100 years experience representing these very types of workers. We intend for our Collective Bargaining agreements to serve as a first line of regulation in the communities our members work in, and we are proud to do it.”
