Go to the alley tonight



Last night, we attended a preview at the Modbo and S.P.Q.R., celebrating two solo shows by Denver artist Davoth and local Phil Lear.

Both are fantastic, but I don't want to spoil the surprise, so here's just a peek at what to expect. Visit the galleries at their openings tonight beginning at 5:30 for the full effect (as well as music by Dear Rabbit and The Bottesini Project).

First, "Still Life With Cadaverous Queen," a painting by Davoth at Modbo. It's a great example of his use of rich, flat colors and pleasing, undulating lines:

At S.P.Q.R., this gem, "Mr. Bad Example" by Lear. It's based on the Warren Zevon song, so I'm automatically smitten. But like all of Lear's work, it's imaginative, inspired and superbly executed:
