What a special day this is for ZZ Top. Not only is the band playing at the Pikes Peak Center tonight, but a new covers collection, ZZ Top: A Tribute from Friends, was just released today.

True, there's already a half-dozen Top tributes on the market, but how many of them have Wolfmother howling "Cheap Sunglasses," Grace Potter & the Nocturnals looking for "Tush," Wyclef Jean tackling "Rough Boy," or Mastodon trampling through "Just Got Paid"? Okay then, I rest my case.

On first (and most likely last) listen, I can definitely vouch for the Potter track being pretty great, and Wolfmother's guitar work as impressive as ever. The Mastodon's OK, and the Wyclef ... well, maybe not such a good idea.

We also get "Sharp Dressed Man" as rendered by an "all-star" group featuring Steven Tyler, Mick Fleetwood, Jonny Lang and John McVie, a congregation which manages to make Mick Jagger's Superheavy project sound like a good idea.

Last but definitely least, there's Nickelback doing "Legs," which is almost as good as the Bloomington Brothers doing Nickelback. Listen to both below, if you dare.
