The Manitou Art Theatre turns the big 10 this year, and in light of that, it's changing its name. The MAT says it's been thinking of doing so for a while, and from the looks of the new choice, it's not just because it's no longer in Manitou Springs.
Welcome, Millibo Art Theatre.
Though the MAT will remain as an acronym, the word Millibo "honors two extraordinary members of the MAT family," reads the online literature. Millibo draws from the names of Bo Freese, an acrobat and MAT circus performer, and Millie Harrison, the MAT's stage manager, technician and performer. Both Freese and Harrison died suddenly last season.
"They exemplified the values that we hold dear at the MAT. They were fearless, funny and generous — with a love for all the possibilities of live theatre."
