Pinkberry's grand opening party

As we mentioned in last week's Side Dish column, Pinkberry has finally arrived in Colorado Springs.

The store officially opened today, Friday, June 17, at 11 a.m. (with hours running to midnight, Sundays through Thursdays and 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays), but a special grand opening celebration was thrown last night, with giveaways and free samples.

Here's a quick slideshow, in which you'll see co-owner Scott Adams (in the Pinkberry shirt and standing on the pink carpet); a huge line that stretched past several other businesses and around the North Academy Boulevard building; shots of the snazzy interior; and of course, pics of Pinkberry yogurt.

I sampled several flavors, and though the salted caramel is pretty fantastic, I most preferred the mango and watermelon offerings. They're particularly nice topped in fresh fruit of the same kind — a beautiful flavor redundancy, rather than lack of imagination.

Go find your own favorite combination and sit outside on the fireplace-accented patio. My guess is this place is going to do killer business this summer and win a lot of people over to "crackberry" — even amid the abundance of new self-serve yogurt shops.
