Roundabout project sent packing

Trucks won't have to navigate a roundabout next to the World Arena, at least not any time soon, after the Board of El Paso County Commissioners on Thursday vetoed an apartment complex project in that area.

You wont be seeing one of these on Ventucci Boulevard any time soon.

Place Properties of Atlanta wanted to build a 240-unit complex southwest of Venetucci Boulvard and Cheyenne Meadows Road to serve Fort Carson, but commissioners rejected the idea on a 3-2 vote.

Commissioners Darryl Glenn and Peggy Littleton opposed the motion to deny, meaning they supported the project.

Commissioners Amy Lathen, Sallie Clark and Dennis Hisey voted to reject the project.

Although neighbors in the Stratmoor Hills area complained of potential noise and water issues, the plan to build a roundabout at Venetucci and Bob Johnson Drive got the attention of several agencies that have big traffic draws in that vicinity. Those include the World Arena and Ice Hall, USA Hockey and the National Strength & Conditioning Association.
