Spice now illegal in Colorado

Yesterday, Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a law that makes a drug commonly known as "Spice" or "K2" illegal in the state of Colorado.

The law takes effect July 1.

Unless you're the type of person who hangs around head shops, you probably hadn't heard of Spice, a dangerous concoction of chemicals that until recently faced little regulation in most states, until the Indy wrote about it last July. That cover story, Incense Nonsense, helped bring attention to a drug that was sold as incense but used to get high, leading to dangerous side effects. Perhaps the scariest thing about Spice was its popularity with teenagers.

We at the Indy are glad to see the end of the legal sale of such a dangerous drug, and we are glad we could be a part of shining some light on the problem.
