Debate on H.R. 1229 has been pushed back to 2 p.m.

——- ORIGINAL POST, 7:28 a.m., TUESDAY ———

At noon today, if you tune in to C-SPAN, you will be able to watch U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn manage the House floor debate on H.R. 1229, the Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act.

According to Lamborn, the act will "help bring down gasoline prices."

This is critical, because over the weekend, the national average for a gallon of gasoline hit $4 per gallon. American families took another hit to their wallets.

H.R. 1229, the Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act, will end the Obama Administration’s de facto moratorium in a safe, responsible, transparent manner — putting thousands of Americans back to work and increasing American energy production to help address rising gasoline prices.

According to OpenCongress, here is the list of the bill's top five supporters (try not to die of shock):

•Agricultural chemicals (fertilizers & pesticides)
•Petroleum refining & marketing
•Oil & Gas
•Natural Gas transmission & distribution
•Major (multinational) oil & gas producers

Likewise, here are the bill's top five opponents (again, watch that heart):

•Health care institutions
•Miscellaneous retail stores
•Health & welfare policy
•Animal Rights
•Environmental policy

The bill is part of a three-fer reform package getting hustled through the Republican-controlled House.

Here's one take, from "30-year veteran of the oil and gas industry" Bob Cavnar:

U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, Republican chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, has taken a novel approach to improving offshore drilling regulation by actually weakening it. Rather than encouraging the modernization of regulations and increasing the budgets for agencies charged with overseeing offshore operations, Hastings is actively working to rush drilling-permit review, further hamstringing an already overloaded federal agency.

And here's another, from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region, supports H.R. 1229, the “Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act,” H.R. 1230, the “Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act,” and H.R. 1231, the “Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act.” This suite of bills would bring a much-needed end to the de facto moratorium on offshore oil and gas exploration and could create tens of thousands of jobs, many for American oil and gas employees who have lost their jobs due to the moratorium.
