Saturday's weather forecast is a glorious one, and what better way to spend the morning than basking in the sun while running for a cause.
The Alpine Autism Center is sponsoring its 4th annual 5K fundraising walk/run at American the Beautiful Park.
The press announcement says:
With tax revenue still declining from the recession and budget reserves largely drained, some lawmakers in Washington, D.C., are proposing deep and sweeping budget cuts that will hurt families by reducing access to necessary services that have proven effective for children with autism.
These proposed cuts come at a time when autism is a national health care crisis now affecting 1 in every 110 children born in the U.S.
This Saturday's walk/run starts at 10 a.m. A kids race begins at 9:45 a.m.
Dollars raised will go to help sustain the center's efforts to provide family support, advocacy and intervention for autism, which affects hundreds of children and families in the Pikes Peak region each year.
