Colorado Springs voters have procrastinated, but now many are coming through.
A few days ago, on March 31, only 32 percent of the ballots sent out in this city election had been returned. As of Monday night, that number had hit 44.59 percent, or a total of 65,264 ballots returned out of about 151,000 mailed. Given the day-to-day surge as of late, it's reasonable to expect a 50 percent voter turnout in this election.
What's not clear is whether late voters might have been influenced by recent events — Brian Bahr leaving the country, Steve Bach being accused of spousal abuse. Only the results will tell. The first numbers from pre-counted ballots should be available at 7:15 p.m., with updates scheduled every 30 minutes or so until the counting is done.
