Acting Manitou City Administrator Mike Leslie says the boiler went down last Friday, and the city is working to replace it. A new boiler should be set up in early April.
If weather conditions remain warm, the city hopes to reopen the pool Monday, and keep it open for the two weeks or so until a new boiler arrives. Once the new boiler is shipped, it will take three or four days to install.
The new boiler will cost approximately $34,000 and will be funded out of the city's $961,000 annual capital improvements fund. The extra expense likely means that some improvements to the pool that were planned for this year will have to be put off.
