Yes, I'm in Austin at the SXSW Music Fest: A place where you can see Chromeo and Fishbone crossing paths at the corner of 4th and Brazos. A place where you can get run down by people texting each other from the back of bicycle-drawn rickshaws. A place where you can meet, well, this guy:
Now before you go making all those bed intruder jokes, I gotta say, he seemed like a nice enough guy. Plus, he's just moved to Austin, so you don't wanna play too hard to get, right? Anyway, I didn't catch his name, but I guess you know how to reach him.
Okay, on to the business at hand. I was gonna post videos of each of the five acts I saw tonight, but the YouTube gods apparently aren't having it. SXSW, you'll remember, is the place that first put Twitter on the map, after a convention full of non-stop tweeters managed to bring AT&T to its knees. It can get congested up in there in the ether, so I'll wait until tomorrow to post vids of Low, the Loom, Yuck and Josh T. Pearson.
But rather than leave you night owls in the lurch, I've uploaded a few clips from Blueprint's incendiary gig here at the Mohawk Patio. There must've been like 700 people lined up outside, but they didn't have badges, and I did, and now they all hate me.
The good news for Colorado Springs music fans, though, is the fact that Blueprint will be playing the Black Sheep on April 2. Bueprint is arguably the most creative and interesting artist on the Rhymesayers label right now, and that's saying something. Guaranteed to be a serious contender for best hip-hop show of the year.
Keep an eye out for an Indy interview with Blueprint later this month. And in the meantime, here's a couple of quick samples, just to whet your appetite:
