Sweatshop Union, a "hip-hop collective," is playing tonight at the Black Sheep. Made up of Dirty Circus, I.B.S. (Innocent by Standers), and Creative Mindz — plus solo rapper Kyprios, Sweatshop releases albums as one, but records among their respective collaborators.
Laid-back delivery with rap sampling and electro backbeats is the name of the game here. If you listen to Blues Scholars, Common Market or Blackalicious you should definitely give them a try. Their latest album The Bill Murray ep has a clean delivery and a thick beat all around, allowing the witty lyrics a solid base to work off of.
The Black Sheep is a great venue for more intimate acts, and if you will allow me to apply that term to a hip-hop group, I choose to do so now. Check 'em out.
And if you can't make it, come back here to the IndyBlog tomorrow for our review.
