I bet if we introduced the category "Person We Wish Would Come Back" to counter "Person We Wish Would Leave" for Best Of, Rodney Wood would definitely get a ton of votes. Of the former, of course.
Anyway, Wood, an intensely gifted artist who now lives in Santa Fe, came back to town last year for a dual-gallery retrospective at Rubbish Gallery and the Modbo. (You can read our coverage on that here.)
Besides that all-too-brief encounter though, to enjoy his work you have to spin through his website rodneywood.com. But now there's another way.
Wood has been chosen to appear in the book Imaginaire III, a compendeum of 61 artists who specialize in the "magic realism" style from around the world. Here are a few of the pages devoted to Wood.
Here's an image of the book's cover, done by Dutch artist Michael Hiep. Warning, the more you look at it, the creepier it becomes.
The book will soon be available on Amazon. And with that, I'm sending out a call to our local galleries. Can someone do another Rodney Wood show, please?
