ListenUp ... no really

Just a quick heads-up on a store we visited today that is new to me: ListenUp.

Dock your music gadget of choice here to sample quality headphones.

Now located on 888 E. Woodmen Road, just east of Interstate 25, the shop used to be downtown on the corner of Tejon Street and Platte Avenue.

Music editor Bill Forman and I were invited to the store today to take an audio and video tour with the owner, who basically wanted to inform us of (read: impress us with) just how stunningly awesome today's technology is — you know, just in case either of us stumbles into a spare $30,000 for a home theater system complete with an LED projection system and super high-end speakers. (We watched a sample from Pixar's Cars on it.)

This is the room where you can try out different combinations of speakers and monitors for your home theater.

We were admittedly impressed, though Bill was disappointed that we didn't get a chance to sample his Steely Dan 8-track.

Anyway ... the point of this post is basically this: You know you can go to places like Best Buy for electronics and sometimes get good service and a good deal, but you probably won't find this higher caliber of equipment and level of product knowledge. Think Porsche dealer versus used-car lot.

Much like if you're in the market for a camera, you can visit a local shop and get thorough service or try to save a few dollars at the chain. Totally up to you, I'm not trying to advertise here.

I was just excited to listen to a bit of music on B&W speakers that cost $5,000 per pair and contain a diamond dome tweeter (London's Abbey Road Studios uses them, as does Skywalker Sound.)
