Drew Rankin, general manager of energy supply for Colorado Springs Utilities who resigned recently, will become CEO at Connecticut Transco Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative in Norwich, Conn.
He replaces 29-year CEO Maurice Scully, who will stay on into 2012 to help with the transition. Rankin starts Jan. 3.
Rankin has more than 30 years experience in the utility industry. At Utilities, Rankin managed electric and gas production, fuel procurement, energy supply and asset optimization. He was inter-regional coordination manager at Midwest ISO and general manager at Cinergy Corporation (now Duke Energy).
“Drew has the skill set necessary to ensure that CMEEC’s member and participant systems are well positioned to remain competitive,” said Scully in a release.
CMEEC is a nonprofit joint action agency with approximately $220 million in annual revenues, responsible for procuring the full electric requirements of the seven municipal electric utilities in Connecticut, which include Bozrah Light and Power, Groton Utilities, Jewett City Department of Public Utilities, Norwich Public Utilities, South Norwalk Electric and Water, the Third Taxing District (East Norwalk), and Wallingford Electric Division.

Drew Rankin, who headed Colorado Springs Utilities' power plants, has suddenly resigned. We'll let you know when we get more information. For now, here's a letter he sent us:
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Today, I submitted my resignation from Colorado Springs Utilities, effective December 31, 2010.
Over the past six years, we shared phenomenal experiences and fundamental achievements in creating and sustaining exceptional value for our customers, by designing and deploying a comprehensive and integrated business model, seeking and fulfilling our individual and collective potential, and honoring the significant responsibilities in supplying energy in this noble profession. Those six years of your hard work and relentless pursuit of excellence allowed our customer-owners to keep over $200,000,000 in their pockets by your achievements in mastering all the variables in producing and procuring electricity and natural gas. The Energy Supply Strategic Measurement System and the transparent and granular metrics we continuously improved in bottom line performance serves as the objective basis and undeniable excellence you achieved, and you should remain forever proud of your achievements. Professionally, the performance levels realized are by far the best I have ever witnessed and participated, and your exceptional contribution to such will forever serve as a catalyst for me to aspire in all future work as the minimum acceptable standard.
Personally, I leave a better person for our shared experiences, and will remain forever grateful for the privilege of working closely with you and in your supporting me in my formal role and as a person. Believing careers are excellent playgrounds for actualization, it is always the people and the enrichment they contribute in our hearts, minds, and souls that last forever, and you certainly enriched mine on a very intimate level as we and our customers repeatedly realized the benefit of our work together, and as I was able to glean from your character.
I admire and appreciate each of you dearly, and encourage you to continue pursuing your ever-greater potential, and to support each other in sustaining and further elevating a rewarding and high performing organization and environment, based in doing what is right for all the right reasons.
