Here's the story behind MCA Denver's new exhibit, Orphan Paintings: Unauthenticated Art of the Russian Avant-Garde, which opens Friday:

In 2004, architectural photographer Ron Pollard believed he had discovered a trove of Russian avant-garde masterpieces. He began purchasing these works from a man in Aachen, Germany, who told him they had been discovered in an abandoned shipping container. With encouragement from some experts, he initiated a collection of over 150 works that remain, six years later, stubbornly unauthenticated. All of these works are on view in this exhibition.

Cool, huh? An opening reception will be held Friday from 8-10 p.m., and on Dec. 16, a lecture on "Fakes + Forgeries." Here's a taste of what you'll see:
