Imagine, if you will, the Colorado Springs music scene as a gigantic faucet, and that my weekly Reverb column is the vessel into which that music flows. The following events, in this silly little metaphor, would be what is pouring all over the bathroom floor and down the hallway ...
The Pikes Peak Blues Community will be celebrating its annual holiday “Wang Dang Doodle” party Thursday, Dec. 9, at Stargazers Theatre & Event Center. This year's festivus will feature a holiday-themed potluck, along with an all-star blues, bluegrass and Americana jam hosted by the Bunker Jam Band (aka Bob Henderson, Jake Loggins, Marty Gordon, Jim Utt, John Stilwagen and Santi Guarnera), but all musicians — and I quote, “ALL MUSICIANS” — are welcome! Doors open at 7, and the music starts promptly thereafter. For more information, please call 476-2200 or visit stargazerstheatre.com.
As hinted at in Reverb a week or so back, this Wednesday, Dec. 15, marks the triumphant return of the Indy's 2010 "Best Original Band," Grass it Up, to its preferred stomping ground, and the west side's preferred feeding trough, Front Range Barbeque. The boisterous bluegrass revue will be complemented this week with a canned food drive (slash) ugly sweater contest (good luck finding any, as this town has been picked for weeks!) with prizes for the “ugliest” and “best” sweaters. Add one of the last known caches of Venetucci Pumpkin Ale, and you have yourself one heck of an Xmas bash! Proceeds benefit Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado; more info's at frbbq.com.
And just a quick one, for the punks: Tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 7, Colorado's second-most obscure band named from a Simpsons reference (behind Langdon Auger, natch), Denver's Truckasaurus will be joined at Union Station by Greeley's Ska Skank Redemption and local ne'er-do-wells, 99 bottles, and Arach Attack.
18-plus, $5 at the door.under 21 is $10 and over 21 is $5.
See, now aren't you glad I made you pull up the carpet?!
