Eight Colorado municipalities embrace MMJ

With most results all but finalized — and our own medical marijuana race as tight as it gets — a news release from Sensible Colorado says that eight municipalities across Colorado voted in favor of the MMJ industry, joining the 19 other locales taxing and/or regulating the plant, says executive director Brian Vicente.

"Yesterday, Colorado voters in several cities and at least five counties acted with great compassion in endorsing the regulated sale of medical marijuana to ill community members," says Vicente. "With these votes, these communities have helped ensure that their neighbors have safe, community-based access to the medicine they need."

These jurisdictions voted in favor of medical marijuana: Alamosa County, Costilla County, Eagle County, El Paso County, Garfield County (which only approved licensed grows) and Park County. Cities Fraser and Minturn also supported MMJ.

In an e-mail response, Vicente says, "I would not declare yesterday an overall victory, but its certainly a win for patients in the areas that will now officially allow dispensaries."
