Owen Hill, the Republican trying to unseat Democrat John Morse in the state Senate District 11 race, has been endorsed by the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police, an organization 5,000 strong.

Hill's campaign pointed out the endorsement carries a lot of weight, considering Morse is a former officer, having served as police chief of Fountain.

"Hill's understanding of policing and public safety issues makes him a quality candidate who is able to effectively handle the tough decisions necessary to properly tackle those issues," the FOP said in a release.

Hill, who grew up in Virginia, graduated from the Air Force Academy and works at Compassion International.

Hill has raised about $75,000 for his campaign, compared to Morse's nearly $116,000.
