Magic's in the makeup

You can bemoan the coming of autumn, but for the trend-aware among us, clothing and makeup always seem to be the most creative this time of year. And in my best fashion-correspondent voice, here it is: Cats and villains are the two biggest trends of the season, boys and girls.

MAC Cosmetics has launched a line of Disney villain lipsticks, eye shadows and liners, lip and brow pencils and glosses inspired by Cruella De Vil, Maleficient, the Evil Queen from Snow White and Dr. Facilier from The Princess and the Frog. The packaging looks right out of the toy aisles, but this high-quality makeup (with high-quality price tags) is most certainly for adults. See more at

MAC has also unveiled a line of makeup devoted to creating a feline-inspired appearance — you know, in a non-plastic-surgery way. If that's still not enough for you, go to Paul & Joe Beaute for its cat-shaped lipsticks. So cute, so impractical, it's style in a nutshell. Notice these come in very neutral colors; I don't even want to think about smearing on fire-engine red with all the weird angles. (Might I suggest a more streamlined animal, like a parrot?)

You can shop for these at, though they may come to Urban Outfitters later this year.
