McEvoy presents Memorial's case

Wednesday night, Dr. Larry McEvoy spoke to at least 100 people who showed up at the West Side Community Center to see what the city-owned Memorial Health System folks have in mind for the $600 million operation in the next few decades.

McEvoy, Memorial's CEO, might have missed his calling as an evangelist. He has a way with crowds. Even though he had only a microphone and a funky Power Point with pictures of elephants, foxes, chickens and rocking chairs, 45 minutes into his spiel, the crowd was still laughing on cue and paying attention.

In case you missed that performance, here's a clip of McEvoy hawking the Kool-Aid, which in this case is his pitch for making Memorial a stand-alone nonprofit unshackled from city politics and other restrictions that he says will allow the system to flourish and continue to provide uncompensated care and improve quality care.

Here's our report about his concept. Or watch the video.
