Peaches, beer, wine, anniversaries and the 'Dark Side of Vitaminwater'

It's time for another food-related news roundup:

First, two worthwhile Huffington Post links from this week: one by author John Robbins (the man who turned me vegan for more than two years) on The Dark Side of Vitaminwater, the other by nutrition community hero Dr. Joseph Mercola on aspartame, The Deadly Neurotoxin Nearly EVERYONE Uses Daily.

Next, imminent warning on Saturday's Café 36 Remembered party at the Garden of the Gods Gourmet's five-year anniversary party. From 5:30 to 8:30, catch a "casual kitchen party buffet" featuring favorite items from Café 36's menu. Entry will be $20 and a cash bar of Two Rivers Winery products will be on hand.

Here's a peek at the menu:

Looking farther ahead, there's a unique way to celebrate the Blue Star's 15th anniversary: You've heard of a wine dinner, you've heard of a beer dinner, but what about a Beer vs. Wine dinner? At 6:30 p.m., Aug. 17, Joe Coleman and crew will serve five courses, each paired with both a beer and wine (um ... you're going to need a taxi ride home); seats are $65 plus tax.

Here's that menu:

And finally, another early warning: The 42nd annual Palisade Peach Festival is set for Aug. 19-22. Catch orchard, winery, brewery and distillery tours, music, culinary events like a peach-eating contest and much more.
