Outdoors lovers who have time to volunteer can now find the right opportunity through a new project launched by the city of Colorado Springs, the Trails and Open Space Coalition and Open Space Volunteers.
The effort aims to connect volunteers with projects that need to get done and probably wouldn't be otherwise, thanks to cuts that decimated local parks budgets.
The Trails and Open Space Coalition (TOSC) has made the “Sustainable Parks Initiative” its priority. As part of that initiative, TOSC will assist the city in coordinating an expanded volunteer effort. TOSC is working with groups to get work dates on the newly developed website.
Trails and Open Space executive Susan Davies says El Paso County parks officials also want to participate in the new initiative.
Check out the website to see if there's a project you'd like to help with, not only now but on an ongoing basis by providing regular maintenance. Tasks to be performed include trail rehabilitation, erosion control, social trail closure, water bars and litter removal.
