Mark your calendars for Sept. 24, the opening celebration for the CU Art Museum. An extension of the University of Colorado at Boulder's campus, this museum will now be open to the public with special exhibitions and gallery shows featuring items from its permanent collection.
And what a permanent collection it is. Started in 1939, the collection boasts an impressive roster of works by Goya, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi and Jan Bruegel the Younger, as well as pieces by Louise Bourgeois, Marsden Hartley, Roy Lichtenstein and Zhang Xiaogang.
The five-gallery museum will host three inaugural shows for the September opening, including Highlights of the Collection, which will showcase pieces by Diego Rivera, Albrecht Dürer and some of the artists mentioned above. Another acquisition, Liliana Porter's "Fox in the Mirror" video work, will also be on display.
