Two officers have been assigned to the Fountain Police Department's Voluntary Parking Enforcement Unit, reviving the unit after a hiatus.
Officers Don Howard and Marc Schips, two sworn officers, will enforce the city code, with their primary mission to "foster public awareness and obedience to the special parking privileges afforded to handicapped persons through education and enforcement, to support school zone parking, loading, and unloading safety efforts," according to a press release.
The fine for parking in a handicapped parking space without the appropriate privilege is $100. The duo's secondary missions include supporting the Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch programs.
