Maketa, Shirk face off this morning



Republican candidates for El Paso County sheriff are making the rounds as the campaign kick into high gear for the final five weeks before the Aug. 10 primary election.

Monument Chief Jake Shirk and incumbent Sheriff Terry Maketa will square off this morning from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Canon National Bank, 518 N. Chelton Road. Please RSVP if you plan to attend to Chris, 632-3526, or, as space is limited.

“We are pleased to present Sheriff Terry Maketa and Chief Jake Shirk as our special guest speakers,” David Alley, vice present of Canon National Bank, said in a release. “This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to come out to our Springs Mastermind Group for a special Questions & Answers for these two outstanding candidates for El Paso County Sheriff. Both of these candidates will have equal allotment of time to answer questions from the audience as well as having been given the five predetermined topics of discussion - Immigration, Medical Marijuana, Public Safety, Fiscal Transparency & Responsibility and Integrity. Everyone is invited and this event is free and open to the public.”

Maketa has dates next week with the Fountain Valley Republican Club and the Young Professional Republican Club, according to his website.
