Pump Up The World

From the department of odd coincidences: The same morning our Bomba Estereo cover hit the racks (the Colombian electro-tropical group opens the local World Music Series next Monday), we get a press release about something called Levi’s Pioneer Sessions, which features Bomba Estereo as well as Indy interview subjects James Mercer (the Shins, Broken Bells) and the Swell Season.

The tracks, which are all covers of previous pop hits, can be downloaded for free here, with two new songs being added each week.

In addition to Bomba Estereo taking on Technotronic’s “Pump Up the Jams,” they’ll include Mercer covering Squeeze’s “Goodbye Girl,” Raphael Saadiq resurrecting the Spinners “It’s a Shame,” and Dirty Projectors doing Dylan’s "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine."

Meanwhile, here’s a list of the first wave of songs, followed by the 1989 video for Technotronic’s "Pump It Up.”
