Colorado Springs is losing another experienced leader.

Terry Sullivan who has led the Convention and Visitors Bureau for two decades, announced this week he is retiring. He (of course) says his decision has nothing to do with the city's recent axing of much of his budget.

Um, sure, of course not.

Anyway, here's the official word:

Terry Sullivan Announces Succession Plan for Pending Retirement
Colorado Springs, Colo. — April 27, 2010 — Terry Sullivan, President and CEO of Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), will retire at the end of 2010 after 20 years of service to the organization, it was announced today. The announcement was made by Susan Edmondson, CVB board chair, at the organization’s 2010 annual business meeting, held at the Marriott.
To an audience of 125, Edmondson said a search team has been formed and is in the process of seeking feedback from community leaders and industry stakeholders about the future of the tourism industry regionally and the role of the CVB and its CEO in ensuring a robust and healthy future for tourism. “I have the utmost confidence that this committee will find a stellar leader to continue the trend of excellence Mr. Sullivan has established in his tenure at the CVB,” Edmondson said.
A new President and CEO is expected to be named by the Board of Directors during the latter part of this year.
Sullivan assumed the responsibility as Executive Director of the Colorado Springs CVB on July 9, 1990. His intentions are to exit his position at the end of this calendar year. Sullivan will reflect on his years of service to the organization during a news conference slated for July 9, 2010, his 20th anniversary.
