Dogs win Divide

Well it was looking like the cats had the race in the bag for Divide's mayorship (confused? catch up here and here), but Walter the tabby couldn't hold his lead through the finish line and lost to Spright, the pit bull mix. Spright was officially inaugurated at a community barbecue on April 11.

Spright collected 4,755 votes, Walter, 4,213. The next-closest candidate netted 1,171. For more on "Mighty Sprighty," (who actually has something in common with Walter: three legs) visit themobilepetvet.net/mayor_spright_9.html. Be sure to check out the "bad poetry."

The best news though, is that each vote cost $1, which benefits the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter. Overall, TCRAS pulled in about $14,000. For a full break-down of the pooches and kitties involved in this year's election, visit tcrascolorado.com/mayor-of-divide.html.

Here's hoping TCRAS will hold another election after Spright's term is up (no word on how long she will serve in office), but I say Divide breaks out of the two-party system (Dogocrat and Republicat) and allows other parties compete: parrots, finches, horses, goats, pigs ...
