I’ve had a fondness for Hi-Dive, which can stand up to the Larimer Lounge when it comes to Denver’s best indie-rock watering holes, ever since I stumbled upon the god-like Ladyhawk opening for the Constantines there. Now comes word that owner Matt LaBarge’s brand new dive, Lost Lake Lounge, will begin booking bands next month.
This past Friday, the Denver Post’s Kathleen St. John described the new East Colfax hangout as having “a Grandpa's-basement-circa-1985 vibe.” And she means that in a good way. Low lighting, comfortable booths, black-and-white TV sets and cheap-but-not-free beer — sorry, your grandpa don’t work here — are reportedly augmented by a wood-burning fireplace, righteously rocking jukebox and, best of all, an automatic photo booth. (Hey, the drunker you get, the better you look, right?)
Lost Lake Lounge is located at 3602 E Colfax Ave, a convenient three blocks east of the Bluebird Theater. If you get there before we do, let us know what you think.
