When flipping through environmental and gardening magazines and books over the years, I've always been drawn to living roofs — I hope to some day have one.
So I was pretty excited to hear that next Thursday, March 25's City Green Team Green Bag Lunch-n-Learn from 12:11 to 12:49 p.m. in the City Administration Building (30 S. Nevada Ave., Suite 102) features a presentation called "Green Roofs Made Easy."
From our Sustainability Coordinator's office:
Weston Solutions, Inc, will share how they've used their GreenGrid® system to create green roofs in Colorado Springs and along the Front Range. The modular system works on flat or low-sloped roofs on new or existing buildings, such as those throughout downtown Colorado Springs and the rest of our community ... Green roofs can help to increase building energy efficiency, reduce heat island effect, decrease stormwater while increasing stormwater quality, improve air quality, increase roof life, and increase acoustic insulation. Using native plants can also provide a comfortable atmosphere for humans and animals alike.
Attendance costs nothing (beyond the lunch you bring); direct questions to 385-2746.
