Apparently, Dan and Toni Francis — and many other former city bus drivers that were laid off at the end of 2009 — will soon be getting checks in the mail.
Francis says he's received an e-mail from First Transit — the city contractor that formerly employed him — saying the checks would be coming next week. The checks are for sick time that Francis and other drivers accrued over the years. Since most of the laid-off drivers were long-time workers, the checks will be sizable.
The Francises, for instance, are due over $11,000.
First Transit had previously refused to pay the former workers for sick time, because it claims the city is responsible for footing the bill. Lawyers are apparently still arguing over that point.
