On the first day of the 2010 Winter Olympics without an American medal, the U.S. also has lost its lead in the medal standings.
Germany has jumped to nine medals (three gold, four silver, two bronze) while the U.S. remains at eight (two gold, two silver, four bronze). France is next with seven (2-1-4) and host Canada has five (2-2-1).
But both American hockey teams have won impressively, the men by 3-1 against Switzerland and the women with a 13-0 rout of Russia that included Jenny Potter's second straight Olympic hat trick, which no woman had done previously at a single Winter Games.
