Coachella uber alles

  • Jay-Z
Anybody thinking of driving to the Mojave desert in the middle of April? You might want to, once you’ve had a chance to read through the jaw-dropping lineup (130-plus bands over three days) that Coachella Festival organizers announced earlier today.

The 2010 fest will include an amazing array of artists associated with many of your favorite decades, like, fer instance …

The ’60s & ’70s: Sly & the Family Stone, Gil Scott-Heron, the Specials, Gary Numan, Public Image Ltd

The ’80s: Echo & the Bunnymen, Grace Jones, Devo, Faith No More

The ’90s: De La Soul, Pavement, Yo La Tengo, Spoon

The Dead Weather

And, of course, The Aughts: Muse, the Dead Weather, Fever Ray, Jay-Z, MGMT, Gorillaz, Yeasayer, Thom Yorke, LCD Soundsystem, Hockey, Corrine Bailey Rae, Little Boots, the Big Pink, Hot Chip, Dirty Projectors, the xx, Mayer Hawthorne, and on and on and on.

Sorry, no bands from The Teens just yet. (All you zygotes out there will just have to feel alienated a while longer.)

Personally, I’ve only managed to get to one Coachella Festival, which was the first back in 1999, and I can’t say that rushing between tents and stages in a sun-scorched polo field was the most ideal way to see music. But this really does look to be the best Coachella ever. So now if I can just figure out how to get rich between now and April ...
