Short of being struck by a meteor, it's hard to imagine what could fell a ginormous man known as "Dr. Death." But throat cancer took out Asylum Championship Wrestling's Steve Williams last week, at the age of 49, and now local owner/promoter Brandon Bishop is planning to turn ACW's Jan. 9 event into a tribute.
Williams — who ended a 30-year wrestling career in ACW's ring last year — left behind an adolescent son, among other family members in Denver, according to Bishop. Much of the family is expected to be in attendance at the Phil Long Expo Center on Jan. 9, and Bishop says he may set up a spot near the door where people can drop a couple bucks. (Ticket sales will go to cover event costs, though many wrestlers have agreed to join the bill for free after hearing of Bishop's tribute plan.)
In the meantime, you can reach Bishop at email@example.com or 388-6527 if you'd like to help the family. And if you own a business that could help, Bishop is looking for donations of food and hotel rooms as well.
