Kind of blues

Even as the Senate was busying itself yesterday excising the public option from health care “reform” (while mandating that every American be forced to pay insurance companies just for the right to exist), the House was doing something comparatively benign. By an inexplicably non-partisan vote of 409 to 0, they passed Congressman John Conyers' resolution honoring the 50th anniversary of Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue.

“It’s sorta of like the Bible in a way. You know, you would just have one in your house,’ says A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip in a promotional video from Columbia Legacy, which also features vintage footage and testimonials from Cannonball Adderly, Ron Carter and others:

So give it a look, dust off the album, and maybe go buy a new copy for someone on your gift list this holiday season. The album itself is a steal at its $7.99 list price, and there’s also a new four-disc Kind of Blue anniversary box (but with a relatively hefty $100 price tag).

Or you could just stuff their stocking with the $13,375 it’ll cost to insure their family next year.
