Once in a while, it's nice to be reminded that a village can be home to more than one idiotic "Doug". With Doug Bruce escaping the city's wrath with a Not Guilty verdict in the trespassing case, it was time for somebody to step up. That somebody: the fightin' 5th District's U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn.
Already a local hero for avoiding debate in the last election, Lamborn continues his tradition of marching lock-step with folks to the right of the neo-conservatives with his latest statements on the passage of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act, which enjoyed widespread support in both the House and the Senate.
According to the Colorado Independent, Lamborn blasted the passage in a statement, calling the bill "just more of the same from Washington Democrats addicted to spending." A curious statement considering the bill is loaded with earmarks from Republican congressman who then voted against the bill, knowing it would pass anyway.
Lamborn's political consistency would almost be admirable if he weren't directly responsible for the support of Colorado's 5th District. Instead, the situation is a bit terrifying and, as our own Ralph Routon has mentioned, unlikely to change soon.
