Wine bars


The six outfits below market themselves on the strength of their wine. More extensive lists do exist at some higher-end gourmet restaurants, such as the Blue Star, MacKenzie's Chop House, the Craftwood Inn and The Broadmoor's outfits, and some medium- to high-end restaurants like the Melting Pot also offer surprisingly strong wine menus as well.

One truth you can take with you wherever you go: If you see Yellow Tail, walk away.

Mona Lisa boasts a downstairs wine cellar where you can enjoy more than 80 wines by the glass or as a flight, along with a cheese or chocolate fondue.

With evening hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Moonflower brings a focus on Old World (French, Italian, Spanish) wines. The list is organized lightest to fullest, with a food menu to match.

Piazza stocks mostly Italian and California wines with a few Spanish bottles thrown in. Look for more than 40 different whites and reds, with 30 available by the glass.

Rico's features a rotating selection of 20 wines by the glass. Look for an assortment of varietals including organic, vegan and sustainably harvested wines.

Whether you go with an international pinot or a sauvignon blanc from the Winery at Holy Cross Abbey, by the glass or by the flight, you can't go wrong with Second Street's wide selection. At happy hour, Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m., get half off glasses of wine and bottled beer.
