Colorado Springs and Austin, TX Nurse/Writer
Why is Colorado the West Nile capital of the United States? Conditions must be ripe here to foster the mosquitoes that carry it.
Would you characterize West Nile as a conservative or a liberal virus? I'd say it's an equal opportunity illness. Let me add there's a lot of media hype about these kinds of isolated diseases, when what we really need to focus on is universal health care.
Which would you rather have: West Nile or Monkey Pox? Probably West Nile if I could be among the 90 percent with mild or no symptoms.

Do you foresee getting West Nile? I got five mosquito bites while out hiking this morning, so I'm wondering. It wouldn't be so bad, though, because then I'd be inoculated against ever getting it again, and I suspect it's going to be with us for a long time, maybe permanently.
How do you account for the high number of cases in Colorado? I was talking with a pathologist last night who said this region of the country is a virus belt because it's so arid.
Would you consider West Nile a liberal or a conservative virus? It's a moderate independent. If you get it, you probably spend a lot of time outdoors -- possibly because you like conservative activities like hunting or militia training, or possibly because you like liberal things like conservation, making you more sympathetic toward mosquitoes.

Have you ever had West Nile? Not that I know of. But I have a 65-year-old cousin in New Orleans who had it. He's still kind of sickly with it.
Why is it so common in Colorado Springs? There must be a lot of stagnant water around here somewhere.
Would you prefer coming down with West Nile or Monkey Pox? What's Monkey Pox? It depends on how you get it.
Project coordinator for a woodwork company
Do you know anyone with West Nile? A friend of a friend had a mild case.
Why is it so prevalent here? My guess is that it's more common in eastern than in western Colorado because it's more humid there. In short, I have no idea.
Is West Nile a liberal or a conservative virus? I'd have to say liberal. Everyone can get it.
If you had to get one or the other, would you choose West Nile or Monkey Pox? I'd go with Monkey Pox because it's a little more unique and festive sounding.
