When Kat and Bob Tudor look for artistic inspiration, they go to thrift stores. To the local husband-and-wife team, virtually anything's fair game including previously painted canvases, which they enhance with acrylics or watercolors.

Viewers can get an eyeful of their creativity at the Fountain Library, in Art from Across the Ocean, where a mix of old and new favorites is on display.

"We do a lot of public art," Kat Tudor explains. "That's what we thrive on. It allows us to get our art out into a different world, so many people, and not just art enthusiasts, can discover art."

She is the founder and artistic director of the Smokebrush Foundation, and Bob is the resident composer and technical director. The Tudors created the Uncle Wilber Fountain, and Kat collaborated with George Peterson on the "Cubical Cactus" sculpture in Acacia Park. The Tudors are also the creative minds behind the Smokebrush Toaster, a drivable, giant retro toaster that appears at art functions around town.

Kat Tudor says she doesn't necessarily have a message when she creates a piece, adding that it's sometimes "three to four years" before a message may reveal itself to her.

The artwork currently on display at the library is a mixture of media. "Dumpster Dancers" is a piece created out of Broadmoor Skating Club costumes from as far back as the 1950s, which Bob discovered in a dumpster near the Smokebrush building. Another favorite, "Did you Exceed Your Limits?" originally was an old landscape painting discovered at the Arc. The Tudors turned the large painting on end and created a backdrop for a large bear holding several colorful fish.
