Tapestries of Hope, Threads of Love

When: Thu., Oct. 3, 5 p.m. 2013

What: an exhibition, book signing and reading by Dr. Marjorie Agosín on the main floor of the Kraemer Library. Her book, Tapestries of Hope, Threads of Love: The Arpillera Movement in Chile, 1974-1994 tells of ordinary women living in terror under General Pinochet’s oppressive rule in Chile and how they defied the dictatorship by embroidering their sorrow on scraps of cloth. The arpilleras were smuggled out of Chile and tell of their fruitless searches in jails, morgues, government offices, and the tribunals of law for their husbands, brothers, and sons.
